Murugi in Mbeere

Women hold the key to development in the new Kenya.

This was the message from Special Programmes Minister Esther Murugi. The minister was speaking at Siakago Town in Embu County when she graced over a ceremony to award women from Siakago Constituency for excelling in their groups.

Eleven Members of Parliament have called upon all the candidates seeking for the presidential seat in next year’s general elections to unite under one umbrella body and conduct joint nominations so as to produce one candidate for the post.

Alliance for 2013 presidential election

The party of the National unity is working towards ensuring they front one presidential hopeful come 2012 general elections.

Speaking in Embu over the weekend, the Minister for Energy Kiraitu Murungi who is also the party’s secretary general said consultations were on to get Martha Karua and Mutava Musyimi in the party.

Vice president Kalonzo Musyoka yesterday said they were consulting with other presidential aspirants to come up with one single candidate for the G seven groups.

Kalonzo said unity of those aspiring with PNU alliance is not only fundamental but essential if one of them is to ascend to the top position.

Water shortage

Over 40,000 residents in Mbeere North and South districts will from next week start getting water.

The government has already provided two water tankers which will supply water to the community especially to the most affected locations of Kirie, Muminji, Kathiga Gacheru and others in the arid district.

Tax reprieve

Members of parliament who had paid their tax arrears will now have to get back their money if the arrangement between the Treasury and Kenya Revenue authority is implemented.

The decision was made to cushion the MPs against paying their tax arrears after claiming they were promised exemption till next parliament.

Famine relief

Lack of transport has hampered the transportation and distribution of famine relief for Mbeere North hunger victims.

The food according to Mbeere North district commissioner John Cherimo is yet to be distributed a month after the consignment was received at Embu National cereals and produce depot.

Entrepreneurship

Investing in educating women and youth on financial management is needed if Kenya is to address significant socio-economic challenges it is facing.
