Ministry to intervene in areas where school are affected by drought

The Ministry of Education is collecting data on schools affected by drought in Eastern province for appropriate intervention measures.
The data when fully complied will guide in issuance of relief food for schools especially in the lower and upper districts of the vast province.  
 

Speaking at Kanyuambora yesterday during a luncheon for best students in KCPE in Mbeere North district, Eastern Provincial Director of Education Boniface Gitau said the government was committed towards ensuring children gain access to affordable quality education.

In cognition of the perceived benefits, the PDE challenged parents to be determined and focused to ensure that children acquire the best form the schools. Gitau said teachers must continue to be positive role models to be emulated by the students. He said they must be an inspiration to the students so that the can scale the great heights ahead of them.

He said teachers must justify their salary increment by working harder, better preparations, more creative presentations and with better results. Gitau urged parents to plan regular visits to the schools and engage in friendly collaboration with the teachers, creating an enabling environment that protects child from any threat that might limit their access to or benefits of education.

The area Member of parliament Hon. Lenny Kivuti who had sponsored the luncheon said he would meet with head teachers of the public schools to evaluate why their perforce was dismal as compared to the private schools. He said out of 92 public schools in the constituency, only 30 managed to produce at least a student with over 300 point.

The awarded Sheila Wanjiru Ngari, the top girl who managed a score of 390 point with Shs 20,000 with Brian Njuguna Wairimu who was the top boy with a score of 380 points receiving the same amount and a Certificate of Excellence.

The reward for the best improved school went to Kathagutari primary school with a mean score of 245 points.
Other students who scored above 300 points were also rewarded with cash during the occasion.

The legislator said the luncheon which is now an annual event is significant in that it provides an opportunity for all stakeholders to meet, identify and recognize those students and schools that had excelled in the district.

The day also provides a platform to deliberate on the future academic trend of the district through consultations and sharing of ideas.
